Board Member, Programs Director

Ron Giesler

Ron has enjoyed a 30 year career in museums and education. Since 2002, he has been leading adventures into the badlands of Montana. He loves creating unique experiences and watching the excitement when someone ID's their first fossil or having a real paleontologist answer their question. 

"I especially enjoy cruising the canyons and coulees looking for the next "big find"...I know it's there"

Board Member, Program Manager, Paleontologist

Erin Roberts

Erin received her Master's degree in Paleontology from Emporia State University with an emphasis on Triceratops. 

​"I think all dinosaurs are amazing. My favorite thing about Paleo X is the experience. You can go out and discover real remains of what had once been a living, breathing dinosaur."

Board Member, Vehicle and Materials Manager

Jake Angell

Since 2012 Jake has been joining us finding fossils in Montana. Now he serves on the Board of Directors and ensures our field vehicles are gassed up and stocked with all the field supplies we need each day.

Board Member, Fossil Preparator and Graphic Designer

Gene Woodford

Woody has been in the field and preparing fossils since 2008. He now serves on the Board of Directors as one of our fossils preparators and graphics designer. He is responsible for most of the posters and other graphics you see on Paleo X. Woody also worked for the Defense Mapping Agency helping to map the moon for the first Apollo landing! He is one of two people we know who had a huge impact on our space program and has a T. rex named after him!

Board Secretary, Gift Shop Coordinator

Gretchen Bertz

Gretchen has been participating in the Paleo X program since 2014 and now serves on our Board of Directors. She also coordinates the events calendar and clothing line of our gift shop. 

​"I have been bringing my two daughters to the Paleo X program in Montana every summer for the last dozen or so years.  We started when they were in elementary school. Now, my oldest daughter is about to start graduate school in paleontology. We love it and look forward to our small-town, educational, scientific, outdoor adventure every summer!"

Board Member, Fossil Preparator and Construction Coordinator

Gary Schaeffer

Gary has been in part of our program since 2012 and has many specimens to his credit. Now he serves on the Board of Directors, assists in excavation projects with participants. He also manages construction projects, especially with the Veranda.

"Being part of Paleo X has been a great experience. I've met people from all walks of life who has the same interests as me. Finding your first dinosaur fossil is something you will never forget."

Board Member, Social Media Supervisor, Paleontologist

Dr. Ben Faulkner

Ben has been part of Paleo X since 2022 and received his Ph.D. from the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences Department from the University of California-Davis. Ben's thesis is on the relationship between diet and skeletal proportions in lizards, birds and dinosaurs. He now serves on the Board of Directors supervising social media efforts. Ben is also one of our field and education specialists.

  

"Being part of Paleo X over the years has been very rewarding. I never thought I would ever get the chance to find dinosaur fossils. When you find a fossil, you soon realize you're the first person to see and touch in over 66 million years. How exciting!

Board Member, Paleontologist

Dr. Nick Thurber

Nick has his Ph.D. in paleontology with an emphasis on prehistoric tortoises through the Earth and Planetary Sciences Department at the University of California-Davis. Nick has been part Paleo X since 2018 and now serves on the Board of Directors and is of our education and field experts.

Education Volunteer

Alan Westfall

Alan began going in the field in 2013 and has several finds to his credit. He now serves as a volunteer in our STEM and public relations events.
